A note before the details

After years of building and growing a life together, from our time at Stanford to our chapters in Palo Alto, San Carlos, and San Francisco, we are finally getting married. We would be honored to have you celebrate this moment with us.

We have chosen a lodge deep in the redwoods of the Santa Cruz Mountains, twenty minutes above the coast.

We are sending this early so the people we love, near and far, have time to make the trip. A formal invitation will follow with every detail. For now, save the date.

The Venue

A lodge in the redwoods

Waterfall Lodge sits on eighty acres of coastal redwood forest high above the town of Ben Lomond. The lodge itself was built from nineteenth-century barn wood and redwood milled from trees that fell on the mountain, and you enter through carved wooden doors from 1820s France. A waterfall runs year-round beside the cabins, and the oldest tree on the property has stood for a thousand years.

The retreat was first founded by a group of Stanford professors in the 1960s. We will say our vows in a clearing among the trees and celebrate at the lodge.

Travel & Accommodations

Making the trip

The lodge is in the Santa Cruz Mountains, about twenty minutes from the beaches of Santa Cruz, thirty-five from San Jose, and an hour and a half from San Francisco. Here is everything you need to start planning. October is one of the loveliest months on this stretch of coast, and rooms in Santa Cruz go quickly.

01 Getting here

Three airports serve the area. San José is closest and usually the smoothest; San Francisco has the most international service. Estimated drive times are below.

  • SJC San José Mineta International ≈ 35 miles · 40–55 min drive
  • SFO San Francisco International ≈ 65 miles · 75–100 min drive
  • OAK Oakland International ≈ 70 miles · 90 min drive

Plan on driving. The last stretch is Highway 17 over the mountains, then Highway 9 through Felton to Ben Lomond, and the lodge is up a private road from there. There is no train to the mountain and rideshares are scarce, so rent a car or ride with friends. Cell service can thin out near the lodge, so we'd recommend saving your directions before you leave.

02 Where to stay

We would love for as many of you as possible to stay on the mountain with us for the weekend. There are two good options: the cabins at the venue itself, or the Brookdale Lodge a few minutes up Highway 9.

    Thirty-three cabins on site, scattered through the trees a short walk from the lodge. We will share cabin details, rates, and how to reserve with the formal invitation, so hold off on booking for now.

  • Brookdale Lodge

    A historic 1920s lodge in the redwoods, with a creek running right through its old dining room, a bar and diner on site, free parking, and pet-friendly rooms. 11570 Highway 9, Brookdale.

There are also small inns and vacation rentals in Felton, Ben Lomond, and Boulder Creek, all within ten minutes of the lodge, if you would like to stay in the mountains without staying on site.

03 While you're here

Santa Cruz is twenty minutes down the hill: the Boardwalk, West Cliff Drive, and surfers at Steamer Lane. Next door in Felton, Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park has an easy loop through old-growth trees, and the Roaring Camp steam train climbs through the forest. Wineries are scattered through the mountains, and Capitola and Monterey are an easy drive along the coast.

How we got here

  1. Stanford

    Where it began

    We first met on campus at Stanford our junior year. Our first date was making jjajangmyeon, a classic Chinese-Korean noodle dish.

    Making it official

    We made things official on May 28, 2018.

  3. San Francisco

    Building a life

    We made a life together, living with friends through the pandemic in Palo Alto, then in a peaceful retreat in the hills of San Carlos, then finally in the city, where we are now in a lovely Victorian in the heart of Duboce Triangle.

  4. Around the world

    Exploring & growing together

    With deeply international roots, we have loved traveling the world together, from our families' homes in Korea and Mauritius to some of the most beautiful corners of the world: Iceland, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and more.
